October 2004 Pinewood Derby

On a wet October morning, Pack 89 gathered for our annual Pinewood Derby.  Between incoming weather and a shortage of racer kits through council, it was a wonder we were able to keep the event as scheduled at all.  A record number of Scouts turned out for the event though, including a fantastic showing by our new Tigers!!!

Mr. Craig handled check-in, making sure all the cars were within the weight limit, while the Scouts eyed the shining trophies and medals to be taken home by the builders of the wining cars.

There were some GREAT looking cars.  LOTS of imagination and hard work went into the building of this year's racers, and it showed.

Mr. Garland led the Scouts and their families in some fun songs as the last of the Scouts were getting their cars checked in and the parents were setting up all the food that had been brought to share.

And in no time at all...

   THE RACE WAS ON!!!

Or, rather, the races.  For as many entries as we had this year, the event went VERY smooth and quickly!  Thanks to CubMaster Craig and his wife Cynthia for their superb planning on the running of this event.

Mr. Craig ran the races, while scorekeepers at the finish line tallied points as each race concluded.

All of the Scouts were rivetted to the track, cheering for their own cars and those of others in their Dens.

Our new Tigers, a much valued addition to the Pack, are here along the sidelines enjoying the excitement of their first-ever Derby.

Once all the races for all the Dens had been completed, scored tallied, and special awards designated, the boys each came up to receive their certificates, trophies, and/or medals.
